Your New Tattoo and You

Leave your new tattoo wrapped for at least one hour after, or until the bandage becomes too saturated with blood/plasma. DO NOT cover your tattoo once you have removed the original bandage your artist has applied. Immediately wash your new tattoo as soon as you remove the bandage with hot running water (DO NOT submerge in a bath) and a mild, liquid, non-scented soap. Gently scrub the tattoo area with your hand only, no wash clothes or any other abrasive materials.

Once you have thoroughly washed your tattoo, pat it dry with a clean towel until it is almost completely dry, then let it air dry for the next 15-20 minutes. After it has completely dried, apply a thin layer of a fragrance free lotion (Curel, Lubriderm, etc.) and massage into skin until it just barely looks moist. DO NOT use A&D ointment as this can clog your pores and cause unnecessary scabbing.

Repeat this process every day for the next two weeks, applying lotion 2-3 times a day. Over the course of the two weeks following your appointment your tattoo will begin to peel like a sunburn; this is completely normal. DO NOT scratch or pick at your tattoo during this time let any peeling and/or scabs fall off naturally. During the healing process at no point should you go swimming or tanning whatsoever. NO SWIMMING POOLS, JACUZZIS, OCEANS, SUN BATHING, TANNING BEDS! After two to three weeks once the tattoo has completely healed you apply sun block during extended exposure to the sun and apply lotion one to two times a week to keep your tattoo from fading and looking as good as the day you got it.
